Enjoying the air of mystery that surrounds an impromptu family meeting, I recently invited my family to such an occasion. The occasion to sit together and chat!
As we've done in the past, we started the meeting with a family prayer. This always serves to bless the atmosphere and helps to keep everyone's minds receptive of what is about to take place. What I love about such occasions is that, other than the family member who requested it, no one else knows the purpose of the activity until the meeting begins.
After watching everyone sweat for a little while, I started the meeting with words of appreciation and gratitude for my husband. Immediately, our young adults and 15-year-old grandson chimed in and to the tune of cheers and high-fives. To others, this may seem a bit corny but the smile on his face proved that it was well worth it. Oftentimes, we neglect to take a moment to share our thoughts of gratitude with those we love. Unfortunately, we take their efforts for granted which can lead to them to feel that their contributions to the family are devalued and their efforts unappreciated. Yet, when we take the time and intentionally thank them, the return on investment (ROI), can be unlimited. Not only are we continually blessed but the individual receives that jolt of confidence that they sometimes need to continue producing the desired outcome.
Take a moment and express gratitude to those you love.
