Constant in the Midst of Chaos

Scripture Focus: Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) — “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Every time we turn on a screen or scroll through a feed, we’re confronted with more unsettling news. Homes raided, families displaced, neighbors detained under ICE operations, citizens attacked, divisions deepening on every political side — the world feels chaotic and fragile. Nations rise against nations; tensions erupt in our own streets. It seems every new day carries its own breaking story of confusion and heartbreak.

Where, in all this noise, do we find peace? How do we rest our minds when the world keeps shaking?

I can only share what I know to be true in my own life: peace is not found in the stillness of circumstances, but in the constancy of Christ.

The Anchor That Doesn’t Move

When everything else shifts, there remains one unshakeable constant: Jesus never changes.

Governments rise and fall. Policies evolve overnight. Leaders come and go. But the nature, love, and power of Jesus Christ remain exactly the same as they were on the day He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and calmed the storm. The same Christ who spoke peace to the waves speaks peace to our hearts now, if we will listen.

That is my resting place. That is the foundation that holds me steady when the world rattles.

Finding Peace Amid Unrest

I often ask myself: How do I not lose heart when chaos surrounds me?

And the answer always comes back to this—He is still on the throne. Even when I don’t understand the “why,” I trust the “Who.” My dad, my mentor, my friend, my Bishop, used to say, "When you can't see God's hand, trust His heart!"

Hebrews 13:8 is not only a statement of theology; it’s an invitation to trust. The unchanging Christ is constant when my emotions fluctuate. He is steady when timelines shift and headlines scream.

When I remind my soul that He hasn’t changed:

  • The uncertainty quiets.

  • The anxiety eases.

  • Hope rises again.

Because He is Love and He loved before time began, His love doesn’t flicker now. Because He reigned over kingdoms then, He reigns over chaos now. Because He saw me yesterday, He still sees me today. Oh, what peace this brings!

My Personal Rest

Like mostly everyone does, there are moments I feel overwhelmed by the sheer weight of what’s happening across our nation and around the world. But rather than let fear drive me into hiding, I anchor myself in prayer and worship.

This is what I do personally when chaos presses in:

  1. I pause and breathe His Name. Whispering “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” resets my focus from panic to presence.

  2. I open His Word. Reading even one verse about His faithfulness steadies me.

  3. I remember what He’s already done. If He’s kept me before, He will keep me again.

  4. I speak His promises out loud. Declaring truth changes the atmosphere within and around me.

  5. I rest my thoughts in His unchanging character. I don’t have to figure it out; I only have to trust.

HE Is My Peace

Herein lies my peace: Hebrews 13:8.

Because I know that He has not changed, I can trust Him regardless of what else changes. He is my Peace when headlines induce fear. He is my Stability when systems collapse. He is my Hope when hope feels scarce.

Every believer has access to that same constancy. It’s not reserved for a select few; it’s available to all who believe. In the midst of chaos, peace is not a place to run to—it’s a Person to rest in.

Hold Tight to the Constant

So, this week, as you hear the latest wave of unrest—whether about ICE actions, political clashes, or another heartbreaking tragedy—let your spirit declare:

“Jesus Christ, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You do not change, and in You, I am secure.”

Let those words become your spiritual equilibrium. Let your thoughts anchor in His timeless consistency. Let your heart find calm in His unchanging faithfulness.

The chaos may continue around you, but Christ’s peace can reign within you. He is constant. He is enough. He is still Lord.
